El The Inter-American College of Radiology has evolved significantly in the last years, and has managed to insert itself into the world radiology field as a continental representative of the societies of radiology. Therefore, you are usually invited to the international meetings that take place in today’s globalized world: The participation of CIR in the RSNA (Radiological Society of North America), ISR (International Society of Radiology), OPS (Pan-American Health Office), WHO (World Health Organization), Radiological Health (the WHO’s Office of Radioprotection) and other international groups that show the worldwide reach of our organization. |
In this context, the ESR (European Society of Radiology), which intends to become global and have participation in non-European members, has written a letter to CIR to inform its interest to associate Latin American radiologists as part of its policy to reach physician worldwide, with a symbolic annual fee of only 10 Euros.
We are also invited to enter into an educational and scientific interchange CIR-ESR agreement which is underway and is intended to be executed soon.
We believe this is an excellent opportunity for all CIR’s member to establish deep bonds with the ESR as we have been doing with other international societies for some time now.
We invite all American radiologists who so wish to associate with the ESR to do so taking advantage of this great opportunity. The details and benefits of being a member of the ESR, as well as the membership form, are found in: www.myesr.org, membership@myesr.org

| Awards to residents of three hospitals |
|
The meeting of the Teaching Centers of Radiology has shown a high level on imaging diagnosis in our countries, fulfillment of all objectives, a broad participation and follow-up and a very good scientific level in the courses, protocols and cases. Moreover, the “meeting” has offered the chance to discuss and show the beauties of our cities. Congratulations to all!
In July, the Forums will still be open as well as the chance to get Credits by taking the exams of the meeting’s courses. In August, the relevant certificates and credits will be forwarded.
The Editorial Committee of Radiología Virtual has estimated that the three services to receive the Meeting’s awards are:

Our website has obtained the pWMC quality seal!!! |
On April 9, 2007, CIR’s website obtained the quality seal of the quality medical websites project (www.pwmc.org).
This is an Internet-based initiative that intends to improve the quality of all websites with human-health-related content developed in Spanish.
The pWMC quality seal supports the websites that have undergone a rigorous accreditation process, which are followed up from time to time in order to check they continue complying with the code of conduct and the quality criteria that identify the seal.
The pWMC bears the support of an important number of scientific institutions and professional groups

CIR’s Education Committee
Throughout the years, CIR’s Education Committee has been one of the most active and rewarding.
According to the bylaws, the committee has to deal with all business related to education including planning, organization and execution of the most important academic event, the Inter-American Congress of Radiology every two years. Likewise, it supports the congresses and seminars both national and local together with the different societies. |
|
Dr. Rodrigo Restrepo González |
|
The committee defines the criteria and rules for the continued medical education programs in different specialties. It also coordinates the countries’ certification and accreditation programs.
The Visiting Professor program is one of the main areas and involves selecting and financing renowned professors to support the courses and congresses. Each year, the National Societies interested in obtaining support send their applications to CIR’s Secretariat which later submits them to the approval of the Annual General Assembly in November.
To this end, they have created a list of the 60 accredited professors, with their CVs, and a list of the conferences. In 2006, the Committee sent 16 professors to contribute to the meetings held in 6 countries. For 2007, they intend to include other 6 countries and about the same number of professors, thus increasing its budget from 10 thousand to 15 thousand dollars.
The Committee has designed a Registry of Teaching and Training Centers to develop a program for the purpose of encouraging the exchange of Radiologists and residents.
The Education Committee for the 2006-2008 period is made up of the persons below:
